Philip Ross, Ph.D., M.P.H. FE’59

RossAfter studying the microclimate of New York’s Black Rock Forest for his Harvard doctorate thesis, Philip Ross began a lifelong interest in plant ecology. His career has taken him from Washington, D.C. mapping vegetation for the U.S. Geological Survey to remote villages in India, Pakistan, Southern Asia, Japan, and Central and South America studying local food and food plants. Through the National Academy of Sciences, he led a group of scientists to study the use and effects of Agent Orange in Vietnam before moving on to a position with Environmental Protection Agency.
